VPK
VPK stands for the Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program. If you live
in Florida, and your child turns 4 four years of age by September 1, your child
is eligible to participate in Florida's FREE Voluntary Prekindergarten
(VPK) education program.
There are a number of private child care and public school
providers offering the VPK program across Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. For
information in Miami-Dade call (305) 373-3521 and for information in Monroe call
(305) 296-5557.
Division of Special Education
As a parent it is import to have the necessary resources to find suitable programs for our child’s
needs. This division provides important information about programs and services
in our community.
Before and After School Programs -
For those parents considering going back to work and/or are
presently working, there are 221 low cost Before and After School Care programs
that serve both Elementary and K-8 Center students and 59 Middle School
Enrichment After School programs that serve middle school students throughout
the Miami-Dade County School district. Each of these programs are staffed with
state certified instructors, state certified program managers, or state
certified activity leaders who are all prepared to enrich and expand the after
school experience of the students they serve .

Adult ESOL
On a yearly basis, selected schools are monitored to ensure that
ELL SPED students are provided with appropriate instruction and services, in
accordance with their Individual Educational Plan (IEP). Technical assistance
and materials are provided through the Bilingual/ESOL SPED Program to SPED
teachers and/or schools who provide services to ELL special education students
as appropriate. In addition, two Itinerant ESOL SPED teachers provide ESOL
and/or Basic Skills in the Home Language (BSHL) instruction to Deaf/Hard of
Hearing ELL students.
